Grandpa Keip's Bran Muffins

It was always a treat when Grandpa Keip would make his Bran Muffins! The recipe here is based on Grandpa Keip's recipe but I've reduced the sugar by 1/3.
Unfortunately, one of the key ingredients of grandpa's recipe, Nabisco Bran, has disappeared as a product. Cousin Kim (Kimmes) Beloin suggests using Bran Buds as a substitute.

Today I reduced the sugar by 1/4, changed shortening to 1/2 shortening and 1/2 butter and added molasses. Linda LIKES them and I do, too. They seem to me to be closer to what I remember of Grandpa Keip’s.
