Mocha Walnut Torte

I've made this for Kate's birthday cake seueral times. She's quite approved of it!

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes


  • 1 16 oz package brownie mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp instant coffee


  1. Prepare brownies as directed.
  2. Add walnuts.
  3. Divide mixture into 2 greased 9" cake pans.
  4. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  5. Cool on racks.
  6. Whip cream until it begins to thicken.
  7. Add brown sugar and coffee to the whipped cream a little at atime, beating it in well.
  8. Beat until firm enough to spread.
  9. Decorate with walnut halves.
  10. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
